POTENSI TANAMAN JAMBLANG (Syzygium cumini L) SEBAGAI ANTIDIABETES : LITERATUR REVIEW

Abstract

Penggunaan tanaman obat kini direkomendasikan untuk mengatasi berbagai penyakit termasuk diantaranya diabetes. Salah satu tanaman yang diketahui memiliki aktivitas antidiabetes adalah jamblang (Syzygium cumini L.). Penelitian mengenai aktivitas antidiabetes tanaman jamblang masih terbatas, sehingga artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberikan informasi tentang potensi jamblang sebagai antidiabetes. Literatur yang digunakan bersumber dari database elektronik seperti PubMed dan Google Scholar dengan pencarian kata kunci “Antidiabetic” dan “Syzygium cumin L.”. Bagian morfologi daun dan biji merupakan bagian yang paling banyak digunakan. Skrining fitokimia terhadap tanaman ini menunjukkan adanya senyawa metabolit sekunder seperti alkaloid, flavanoid dan saponin yang diduga memiliki aktivitas hipoglikemik. Studi in vitro dalam memberikan aktivitas antidiabetes melalui mekanisme penghambatan enzim α-Amylase dan α-Glucosidase sedangkan pada studi in vivo memberikan perbaikan melaui penurunan glukosa darah, perbaikan struktur histopatologi hepar dan pankreas serta menormalkan profil lipid.
