Effectiveness of Continuum of Care on Mothers' Ability to Care for Babies in Makassar City

Every child has the right to live, grow, develop and be protected. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out comprehensive, integrated and sustainable efforts for children's health from the fetus to the age of 18 years. The aim is to ensure the survival and quality of life of children through reducing mortality rates, improving nutrition, and fulfilling minimum service standards for babies. This study aims to assess the relationship of Continuum of Care (COC) to mothers' ability to care for babies in Makassar City. Method: used is quantitative with analytical observational method with case control design. The research sample consisted of 76 mothers, with 38 mothers receiving COC services and 38 mothers not receiving these services. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and Odds Ratio (OR) calculations. The results of the study showed that mothers who received COC services had better ability to care for their babies compared to those who did not receive them. Of the 38 mothers who received COC, 89.4% were able to care for their babies well, while only 34.2% of mothers who did not receive COC were able to care for their babies. A p value of 0.000 indicates this difference is statistically significant. The Odds Ratio shows that mothers who do not receive COC services are 16 times more likely to be unable to care for their babies compared to mothers who receive COC (OR = 16.346). This research concludes that the implementation of the COC program significantly increases mothers' abilities in caring for babies. Therefore, it is recommended that the COC program be implemented widely to improve the quality of infant care and maternal and child health.
