Abstrak

Education On Early Recognition Of Pufa Deficiency In Pregnant Women To Support Fetal Development

Fat and essential fatty acid intake among pregnant women remains insufficient, particularly omega-3 fatty acids such as ALA, EPA, and DHA, which play a crucial role in fetal brain development. Pregnant women living in rural areas are reported to have a 1.4-times higher risk of linoleic acid deficiency compared to those in urban settings. Inadequate PUFA intake during pregnancy may reduce breast milk quality and potentially affect the infant’s brain development. This community service program aims to enhance the knowledge of pregnant women, health workers, and posyandu cadres regarding the role of PUFAs in supporting fetal development and preventing early deficiency. The program includes nutrition education, introduction to PUFA-rich food sources, and capacity strengthening for cadres. Activities were carried out in Karunrung, Makassar, from April to October 2025 with regular monitoring and evaluation. This program is expected to increase nutritional awareness among pregnant women, support optimal fetal growth and development, strengthen community health education, and encourage healthier dietary patterns based on PUFA-rich foods.

Asupan lemak dan asam lemak esensial pada ibu hamil masih tergolong defisit, terutama omega-3 seperti ALA, EPA, dan DHA, yang berperan penting dalam pertumbuhan otak janin. Ibu hamil di wilayah perdesaan tercatat memiliki risiko 1,4 kali lebih besar mengalami kekurangan asam linoleat dibandingkan ibu hamil di perkotaan. Kurangnya PUFA selama kehamilan dapat menurunkan kualitas ASI dan berpotensi memengaruhi perkembangan otak bayi. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan ibu hamil, tenaga kesehatan, dan kader posyandu mengenai peran PUFA dalam mendukung perkembangan janin serta pencegahan dini terhadap defisiensinya. Program meliputi edukasi gizi, pengenalan sumber pangan kaya PUFA, dan penguatan kapasitas kader. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Kelurahan Karunrung, Makassar, pada April–Oktober 2025 dengan monitoring dan evaluasi berkala. Program ini diharapkan meningkatkan kesadaran nutrisi ibu hamil, mendukung tumbuh kembang optimal janin, memperkuat edukasi kesehatan di masyarakat, serta mendorong pola konsumsi sehat berbasis pangan kaya PUFA.
