Adolescents are considered a vulnerable group because they are easily influenced by social environments and have limited knowledge. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of education through learning videos in improving adolescents’ knowledge about the dangers of smoking. The study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest– posttest approach, involving 77 seventh- and eighth-grade students of SMP Nasional Makassar selected using purposive sampling. The instrument used was a questionnaire consisting of 15 multiple-choice questions. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The findings indicated an increase in the mean knowledge score from 9.26 (SD = 3.412) in the pretest to 12.29 (SD = 1.932) in the posttest. The proportion of respondents with good knowledge increased from 50.6% to 72.7%, while those in the poor category decreased from 19.5% to 0%. The Wilcoxon test result showed p < 0.001, indicating a significant difference between conditions before and after the intervention. This study concludes that the use of learning videos can effectively enhance adolescents’ knowledge regarding the dangers of smoking, particularly related to oral and dental health. The success of pulp capping treatment depends on proper caries excavation and the selection of an optimal capping material. Biofactor MTA (Imicryl) is a next-generation calcium silicate–based bioactive pulp capping material developed to overcome the limitations of conventional pulp capping agents. This case report discusses the treatment of a permanent tooth diagnosed with reversible pulpitis on tooth #47, with a treatment plan of pulp capping using Biofactor MTA (Imicryl). The treatment procedure included caries excavation, application of the Biofactor MTA (Imicryl) material, placement of a glass ionomer base, and Class I composite resin restoration. Evaluation at the sixth week showed the absence of pain symptoms, good pulp vitality, and the formation of reparative dentin. Biofactor MTA demonstrated favorable clinical outcomes and shows potential as an effective, easily applicable, and more economical bioactive pulp capping material among its class for the treatment of vital permanent teeth.

Keywords : Biofactor MTA; pulp capping; bioactive; vital pulp therapy
Rheina Fitriyani, Dr. Denny Nurdin, drg.,M.Kes.,Sp.KG.,Subsp.KE. This study aims to determine the relationship between the severity of dental caries and the quality of life of children at SDN 5 Benteng, Sidenreng Rappang Regency. This type of study is an observational analytic with a cross-sectional design using a total sampling technique of 70 children in grades 3–5 from a total of 156 students. Caries severity was assessed using the DMFT/deft index according to WHO criteria, while quality of life was measured with a questionnaire covering aspects of eating, speaking, learning, and sleeping disorders. Data analysis was performed univariately, bivariate using the Spearman correlation test, and multivariate with logistic regression. The results showed that most children experienced very high caries severity (41.4%) with the dominant quality of life disturbance in the eating aspect (58.6%). Bivariate testing showed a significant association between caries severity and eating disorders (p=0.013; OR=2.15), but no significant association with speech (p=0.339), learning (p=0.309), or sleep (p=0.379) disorders. The conclusion of this study is that the severity of dental caries is significantly associated with children's quality of life, particularly in terms of eating disorders. Meanwhile, the latest more specific data on periodontal disease from Riskesdes 2018 shows the prevalence of periodontitis at 74.1% in Indonesia. Periodontal disease is an inflammatory condition that occurs due to bacterial biofilms on the surface of the teeth, and is one of the main causes of tooth loss due to damage to periodontal tissue that cannot be healed. One of the things that often happens in daily life and has the potential to damage the gingival tissue is the use of toothpicks that are done roughly, too often, or not as recommended. The habit of using toothpicks to clean food residue between teeth is quite common. However, if a toothpick is used in the wrong way, especially one that has a rounded cross-section and does not fit the shape of the gums, it can cause mechanical injury to the gums. The purpose of the study was to determine the frequency of toothpick use affecting gingival health. The type of research uses quantitative descriptive, which is a type of research that uses directly reviewed field data to solve current problems. The research time is from June to July 2025. The research population was 100 people in Siduntung Hamlet. Sampling is known as sampling based on consideration. A sample of 30 respondents was taken, which was adjusted to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results of a study in Siduntung Hamlet, Ongkoe Village, Belawa District, Wajo Regency show that the use of toothpicks has an impact on gingival health. The frequency of toothpick use is associated with the level of gingival inflammation, the more often it is used, the higher the risk of inflammation.
Rezki Dirman, Eva Novianti Sandra, Asnuddin, Sri Sakinah Copyright (c) 2025 Rezki Dirman, Eva Novianti Sandra, Asnuddin, Sri Sakinah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/1960 Sat, 06 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0800
