Oral hygiene among intellectually disabled children tends to be lower compared to children without disabilities. This is due to their condition of below-average intelligence and difficulties in adapting adaptively, which affects their oral health maintenance behavior. Oral health maintenance behavior is one of the factors that can influence oral hygiene. This research aims to determine the relationship between oral health maintenance behavior and oral hygiene in intellectually disabled children at SLB Negeri 1 Makassar. This study is a quantitative research using an observational approach with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique in this study used purposive sampling, resulting in a sample of 30 individuals who were then assessed for oral hygiene levels using the OHI-S and oral health maintenance behavior using a questionnaire. Data analysis used the Mann-Whitney test to determine differences between the two variables based on gender and Spearman correlation to determine the relationship between the variables. The results of the study showed that oral health maintenance behavior in female students is better than in male students, and the OHI-S scores of female students are better than those of male students. However, the significant difference was only in the behavior variable. Overall, there is a significant relationship between behavior and OHI-S in intellectually disabled children at SLB Negeri 1 Makassar.
Jumriani, Asriawal, Ira Liasari, Muftih Khaera, Ardian Priyambodo Copyright (c) 2024 Jumriani, Asriawal, Ira Liasari, Muftih Khaera, Ardian Priyambodo https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/591 Thu, 06 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0800 The Effect of Using of Educational Videos on Brushing Teeth on Knowledge and Skills in Elementary School Students https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/615
Dental health education for school children is an effective strategy in preventing the occurrence of dental and oral diseases. Dental health education is a primary preventive measure carried out before a disease occurs. One effort that can be made to increase school children's knowledge and skills in brushing their teeth is by using audio-visual media. This media is not only effective in conveying information directly, but can also be used as an outreach tool that can be disseminated widely. The use of this technology can increase the audience's absorption and understanding, especially children who tend to be more responsive to visual media. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of using educational videos on brushing teeth on the knowledge and skills of Berbt Elementary School students. Muhammadiyah Berua, Makassar City. This type of research is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental approach. The sampling technique used was total sampling in all 6th grade classes at SD Berbt. Muhammadiyah II Berua has 36 students. Research Results Shows that the use of educational videos on brushing teeth significantly increases elementary school students' knowledge about the importance of maintaining oral health and the use of educational videos also significantly increases students' practical skills in brushing teeth.

Agus Supriatna, Nugraheni Widyastuti, Badai Septa Wahyudadi, Nur Aulia Rahmah Copyright (c) 2024 Agus Supriatna, Nugraheni Widyastuti, Badai Septa Wahyudadi, Nur Aulia Rahmah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/615 Fri, 31 May 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Use of Zinc Oxide Eugenol As a Sealer For Root Canal Treatment Of Tooth 11: A Case Report https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/576
Irreversible pulpitis is a condition that indicates that the inflamed pulp cannot heal, so it requires treatment in the form of root canal treatment. The success of root canal treatment depends on the process of cleaning, shaping and sealing the root canal. To obtain a good seal, obturation materials such as gutta-percha and sealer are used. The function of the sealer is to fill the space between the gutta-percha and the root canal wall. Zinc oxide eugenol is one of the most commonly used sealer materials because it has antimicrobial effects, is radiopaque, easy to obtain and apply, and is economical. This case report reports a 24 year old female patient who came with complaints of cavities in her front teeth since 1 year ago. Based on the examination results, the patient's diagnosis was irreversible asymptomatic pulpitis with normal apical tissue of tooth 11. The treatment carried out was root canal treatment on tooth 11. The results of the treatment showed that zinc oxide eugenol could be a good sealer and did not cause abnormalities in the periapical tissue.
Muhammad Arib Rafi, Denny Nurdin Copyright (c) 2024 Muhammad Arib Rafi, Denny Nurdin https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/576 Tue, 28 May 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Quality of Dental and Oral Services at Tamalate Community Health Center: Exploring Patient Satisfaction Levels for Continuous Improvement https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/536
Patient satisfaction with the quality of dental and oral health services is a comparison between perceptions of the services received and expectations before receiving services. One effort to maintain dental health that is quite effective is through oral health education. The aim of this research is to determine the difference in the level of knowledge of toothbrushing patterns before and after counseling using audiovisual media in the form of animated videos among students at SD Inpres Perumnas. The method in this research uses quantitative research, namely pre-experiment with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design, with a population of all SD Inpres Perumnas students. Sampling in this study used the Purposive Sampling method with a sample of 42 students who were class IV students at SD Inpres Perumnas. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire sheet. The data analysis technique used is the Paired Sample T-test. The research results showed that the average value of knowledge had increased, namely before being given counseling, it was 41.19 and after being given counseling, it was 72.85. Significance (p) is 0.000 which means ≤ (0.05), then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. So there is a difference in knowledge of toothbrushing patterns between before and after counseling using audiovisual media in the form of animated videos.
Badai Septa, Hans Lesmana, Rini Sitanaya, Agus Supriatna, Nurfadila Wulandari Copyright (c) 2024 Badai Septa, Hans Lesmana, Rini Sitanaya, Agus Supriatna, Nurfadila Wulandari https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/603 Thu, 06 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Increase Motivation and Knowledge of Oral Health by Using Busy Book for 6-7 Year Old Children https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/602
Children aged 6-7 years are vulnerable to oral dental disease.
