Health education aims not only to increase literacy related to oral health, but to bring about positive behavioral changes if instilled from an early age (Kay, 1996 cited. Deokar, et al., 2021).The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the Snakes and Ladders game on the behavior of fourth grade students after dental health education with PowerPoint media. This study is included in the type of quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest research design involving a control group. This study involved 100 respondents who were divided into two groups. The intervention group consisted of 50 fourth grade students of MIN 3 Bireuen who received education using PowerPoint media accompanied by a Snakes and Ladders game. While the control group consisted of 26 fourth grade students of MIN 9 and 24 students of MIN 19 who were only given education with PowerPoint media. Each study group received health education 4 times, and behavior-related questionnaires were administered at pretest and posttest I (1 month), and posttest II (3 months). Results: there was a significant difference in behavior in the intervention group (0.014) from pretest to posttest II, but the difference in behavior difference from pretest to posttest in both groups did not show a significant value (0.173). Conclusion: snakes and ladders game given after education with PowerPoint media is not better in improving students' dental health behavior.

Keywords : Snake Ladder; Powerpoint; Students' Dental Health Behavior
Hayatunnufus Rohisotul Laily Dwi Septiarini Yulyana Sendia Martina Copyright (c) 2025 Hayatunnufus https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-06-18 2025-06-18 24 1 1 8 10.32382/mkg.v24i1.1468 Teachers' Skills in Intervention of Tooth Brushing Behavior of Mentally Retarded Children through Behaviour Change Therapy Approach https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/1466
Dental health problems are still a challenge in society, including children with mental retardation who have limitations in intellectual, social, behavioral, and motor coordination aspects. This condition impacts low oral hygiene, where around 75% of children are classified as poor. This situation occurs due to the limited ability of children to carry out tooth brushing activities independently and the lack of dental health programs specifically designed for mentally retarded children. Therefore, behavior change therapy can be an alternative strategy to change tooth brushing behavior by meeting the special needs of children with intellectual disabilities through tooth brushing skills taught by teachers at school. The goal is to provide an alternative to changing children's tooth brushing behavior. The method used is Quasi-Experimental Control Group Pretest and Posttest Design. Results The behavior change therapy model as an alternative approach to changing the behavior of children with special disabilities of mentally retarded children has an average expert validation score of 86.67 (very feasible). Teacher skills effectively improve the tooth brushing behavior of children with intellectual disabilities through a behavior change treatment model approach, with a p-value of 0.040 (p <0.05) meaning that the behavior change therapy treatment model for brushing teeth of mentally retarded children is effective in improving the tooth brushing behavior of mentally retarded children through teacher skills.
rohisotul laily hayatunnufus yulyana sendia martina Dwi Septiarini Copyright (c) 2025 rohisotul laily, haya, Sendia, iin https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-06-18 2025-06-18 24 1 9 16 10.32382/mkg.v24i1.1466 Status Sosial Ekonomi Orang Tua Terhadap Karies Gigi dan Mulut Anak Di SD Islam Paropo Kota Makassar https://ojs3.poltekkes-mks.ac.id/index.php/medgigi/article/view/1417
Socioeconomic status is a person's particular position relative to other people in a group or class of society. The method used in this research is total sampling with bivariate analysis using a correlation test by looking at socio-economic status, which is classified based on the income, education and employment of parents. The study utilized a sample of 84 students from Paropo Islamic Elementary School in Makassar City.. The results obtained from this study showed that children at Paropo Islamic Elementary School had a high frequency of caries as many as 52 students (61.90%). For the results of parents' socio-economic calculations seen from parents' income using the Mann-Whitney correlation calculation, it shows p value = 0.841, and for parents' occupation it shows p value = 1,000, while for parents' education it shows p value = 0.943. This tooth damage occurs because children often consume sweet, soft, and sticky foods whose remains remain in the mouth for a long time and are not cleaned immediately. Most tooth decay in children is not only caused by the habit of consuming sweet foods, but can also be influenced by various factors, including proper and consistent brushing habits. Tooth brushing habits also affect the level of dental and oral hygiene. This study aims to determine the relationship between tooth brushing habits and the level of dental and oral hygiene of students at SD 196 Mangasa, Bulupoddo District, Sinjai Regency. This type of research is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The data will be analyzed using univariate analysis to see the distribution of research variables and bivariate analysis with the non-parametric Mann-Whitney test to analyze the relationship between tooth brushing habits and the level of dental and oral hygiene. One of the most commonly found problems is malocclusion, which refers to the misalignment of teeth and affects around 80% of the population. This condition negatively impacts daily activities, including psychosocial aspects. Previous studies have shown that malocclusion can affect self-confidence and appearance, thereby requiring special attention in orthodontic care. This study is an analytical observational research, in which the researcher directly observes subjects to identify relationships between two or more variables without administering treatment or intervention. The research design used is cross-sectional, which assesses the relationship between independent and dependent variables at a specific point in time without follow-up. The results of the bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test indicated that there is no significant relationship between malocclusion and psychosocial conditions among adolescents at SMA Negeri 9 Makassar (p = 0.149). Most respondents had Class I malocclusion, commonly in the form of crowding, but due to low levels of knowledge and awareness, they were less conscious of the social impact of their condition. This condition can be found in all ages and genders and is often associated with halitosis (bad breath). The onset of halitosis is due to the production of VSC (volatile sulfur compound) compounds by gram-negative anaerobic bacteria that colonise the surface of the tongue. Halitosis is a multifactorial condition that can negatively affect the quality of life and social relationships of sufferers. Therefore, socialisation efforts need to be made through education to all levels of society. This article aims to review the literature on the definition, aetiology, classification and various considerations in the management of coated tongue and halitosis in dentistry. Poor tongue hygiene is significantly associated with increased levels of VSCs and intensity of bad breath. Management strategies that include mechanical tongue cleaning such as the use of a tongue scraper have been shown to be effective in reducing halitosis levels. The role of dentists as health workers in the community is needed to create good oral health in the community, including efforts to optimise it through socialisation of maintaining tongue hygiene. Thus, coated tongue is an important etiological factor that needs to be considered in the evaluation and management of halitosis.

Daniel Rexi Sitompul Mutiara Dewi Wilda Hafny Lubis Copyright (c) 2025 Daniel Rexi Sitompul https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-06-18 2025-06-18 24 1 100 106 10.32382/mkg.v24i1.1125
